The Indonesian island that has captivated travellers for generations is a treasure trove of experiences; with its unique culture, arts and the warmth of its people Bali still retains a special allure.
Highlights: Sanur – Ubud – Munduk – Kayupti – Pemuteran – Canggu
Sanur
On arrival at Sanur you will be met and driven to your hotel. This seaside beach town is the first one to be established on the island. The beach is quiet and good for walks; in the distance you can see Lembongan Island and on a clear morning you might spot the mighty Agung Volcano. Sanur is a perfect location to start your trip.
For your first night we will arrange a special dinner in a Balinese home with a member of the Balinese Royal Family in Tabana: a memorable experience indeed.
Sanur
Free day; in the evening you will visit Sindhu Market with your guide to sample some of the different flavours of the best local cuisine. From the ubiquitous sate, to a hearty bakso soup, the creamy peanuts of gado-gado, or the classic mie goreng, a veritable feast in a lively and colourful setting.
Sanur - Ubud
The journey to Ubud travels via Pasar Gianyar, which has numerous food stalls and is a great place to see and meet Balinese people going about their daily lives. We continue the journey with a climb to the temple at Besakih on the slopes of the majestic Gunung Agung, Bali's sacred mountain and the highest point on the island.
On the way to Ubud we will stop at Tirta Empul, the sacred waters used for over a thousand years by Balinese Hindus for purification. If you want to partake in the ritual, bring a bathing suit and a sarong.
On arrival in Ubud you will be driven to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure.
Ubud
The day starts with an excursion to Gunung Kawi temple with impressive shrines and amazing views. Following this we will pick up bicycles as there is no better way to explore the beautiful landscapes and to take a closer look at everyday life in the villages in the area than on two wheels!
It is mostly downhill, following the winding roads of the countryside. In the middle of the rice fields you will find a woodcarving museum with artisans at work. Visit a small village for a friendly chat with the locals and to get a glimpse of their everyday lives.
As cycling makes you hungry, we will stop for lunch with local Balinese delicacies before dropping off the bikes and driving back to your hotel.
Ubud – Munduk
The journey starts with a visit to Jatiluwih, a World Heritage Site which is effectively a living museum showing the island's traditional methods of agriculture; where skillful use of land and water has transformed near-vertical hillsides into lush, 'picture postcard' paddy-fields. Continue to the temple of Puru Ulun Danau Bratan, built in 1663 and dedicated to the goddess Dewi Danu.
Excursion to Kayupti
A picturesque adventure with a jungle trek to the sparkling Lake Tamblingan. Your guide will take you across the lake on a hand-crafted canoe to visit an ancient holy temple. On return, take a stroll in the local village and stop by the Munduk waterfalls.
Travel to Pemuteran
Transfer to the small fishing village of Pemuteran, with a stop en route for a visit to the Buddhist monastery and sacred hot springs in Banjar. Later in the afternoon you will arrive at your lovely beach resort.
Pemuteran
Full day excursion to the island of Menjangan, which offers some of Indonesia’s best snorkeling, with crystal clear waters and colourful coral teeming with tropical fish.
Break for a picnic lunch on the boat and then perhaps some more snorkeling in the afternoon before returning to the mainland and driving back to your hotel.
Pemuteran
Free day. Please contact us if you are interested in any particular activity or excursion, from a local cooking class to a visit to temples. We recommend a visit to the fascinating Bali Biorock coral nursery and information centre.
Travel from Pemuteran to Canggu
During the journey, there will be a stop at Tanah Lot temple, one of the most photographed temples in the world, perched on a barren rock outcrop which at high tide is completely surrounded by ocean.
You’ll then continue for a visit to Mengwi for a visit to the Royal Family Temple of Taman Ayun before continuing to Canggu, an up-and-coming coastal village with 10km of beaches and surfing.
Canggu
Free day to explore Canggu.
The coastline of Canggu comprises different black-sand beaches and excellent surfing. Canggu hasn’t been on the tourist trail for very long but has been gaining a reputation through word of mouth and social media. It is becoming increasingly popular amongst expats with modern villas popping up between the lush green rice fields. New restaurants and bars are beginning to appear. Canggu is where it is at!
